Rote memorization is not an effective way to learn and remember. How many kids forget their spelling words as soon as they finish the test?

We need to give kids an active role.

Why Is Spelling So Hard?

It combines Phonological Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Orthographic Connection
Spelling requires a student to hear the word correctly, syllabicate the word, segment the word at the phoneme (sound) level, identify what letter/letters make the sound they hear, remember any irregular patterns

Spelling is learned in stages. It is developmental

Make the learning FUN and Multi-sensory

Use salt trays, shaving cream, sand, magnetic letters, clay.
