Needing Aloha

For my husband’s birthday I used airline miles to book a flight to Hawaii. The last time we were there we both enjoyed the kindness of the people as well as warm ocean water. Everywhere we went we experienced serenity. It seemed the perfect gift to give my husband (and selfishly, myself). So we will stay in a condo that our friends told us about that includes a pool, exercise room, and even a laundry room. It is less expensive that the fancy hotels, although we intend to shop at some of them.

Retirement has been a challenge for my formerly active husband. He has been a bit sad that he is not teaching and coaching. Endings and life changes are often hard. Sometimes it is easier to fall into a sedentary, lonely life. I want him to experience joy again. Warm water, surfing, and the Aloha that is all around the island is sure to help.

My husband loves the ocean. We will be sure to rent a surfboard when we arrive. I knew this trip was meant to be when I had an electrical problem and called our faithful electrician, Eric, mentioned that he will be on the island a day after we arrive! He invited my husband to surf with him. Hopefully I can sneak in a shopping trip. Our friends who arranged a condo for us sent an email with loads of fun things to do while on the island. On my list is snorkeling. The last time we were there I saw fish that I swear had pink lips. I am certainly going to take photos!

Wish us luck.

Aloha
