I’m Back and Ready to Rant

Sometimes I just need to take a little break from things. Okay, so maybe I took a long break from writing. If I am honest with myself, writing is my friend, my confidant, my healing. I knew I needed to get back to it. So here I am.

I have been contemplating how to navigate the changes to our country that are happening daily. Some vital programs are being eliminated in the name of “waste.”‘ School lunches for kids is one that hits hard. I know first-hand the importance of feeding hungry kids. As a former teacher, I know that most of the students who line up to receive food needed to fill their stomachs before they could learn. How can we possibly label it “waste?” It isn’t right to deny children access to food. Not all parents can afford to pack a nutritious lunch for their child. When did we stop caring? I never will.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is a big one too. As a person with a life-changing disability, it makes no sense to pretend it doesn’t exist. Some highly qualified people are losing hard-won rights. Students with special needs don’t disappear, they need resources to help them attain their full potential. It isn’t a political issue, it is a human rights issue. Diversity is what makes America great.

Speak out, call elected officials, write, roar!
